Purpose: The Coyote Club after school program provides opportunities for academic enrichment, including providing tutorial services to help students, particularly students who attend low-performing schools, to meet State and local student academic achievement standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and mathematics.
It also offers students a broad array of additional services, such as youth development activities, service learning, nutrition and health education, physical fitness and wellness programs, financial literacy programs, environmental literacy programs, mathematics, science, career and technical programs, internship or apprenticeship programs and other ties to an in-demand industry sector or occupation for high school students, drug and violence prevention, counseling, art, music, recreation, technology education, and character education programs, that are designed to reinforce and complement the regular academic program of participating students; and offer the families of students, served by community learning centers, opportunities for active and meaningful engagement in their children’s education, including opportunities for literacy and related educational development.
Partnerships: The Coyote Club thrives through collaborative partnerships with key organizations dedicated to student success. The program was built in partnership with the Jones County School District ensuring alignment with academic goals, resources and local needs. Three Rivers Special Services Cooperative (TRSSC) serves as the fiscal agent, providing essential administrative and financial support. The 21st Century Learning Community Center grant that funds the program consist of federal dollars administered by the South Dakota Department of Education. Because of this funding mechanism, there are no fees for students to participate. The Coyote Club also partners with the Oahe Child Development Center to enhance family engagement through initiatives such as Family Nights, fostering a strong connection between students, families, and the community. Together, these partnerships strengthen the program’s ability to provide a well-rounded, enriching experience for all participants.
